Inspection of Beehives: Colony 1 and 2

Today, I carried out a routine inspection of my two beehives, Colony 1 and 2. Regular hive inspections are crucial to ensure the health of the bees and the productivity of the colony. During the inspection, I checked for signs of healthy brood patterns, honey production, and any potential pests or diseases. Both colonies are thriving, with strong queen activity and plenty of worker bees contributing to the hive’s overall well-being.

If you’re new to beekeeping, remember that frequent inspections not only keep your bees healthy but also help you learn more about the fascinating world of beekeeping.

First Solo Visit to the Bees: A Learning Experience

Today, I had my first “almost” solo visit to the bees. With guidance from a beekeeper friend, I successfully applied the medication to protect the hive from the dreaded Varroa mite. It was fascinating to experience working with the beehives up close. I even encountered an unexpected guest – a little mouse taking a nap near the beehive, which I kindly had to shoo away. An unforgettable day in nature and another step forward on my beekeeping journey.

A Hedgehog Family Under the Terrace

For some time, a hedgehog made its home under the wood of my terrace. I often saw it scurrying around, especially in the quiet evening hours. Recently, it became clear that the hedgehog wasn’t alone – a few tiny babies appeared alongside it. It was quite a charming discovery!

However, ever since Bijou, our newest pet, arrived, the hedgehog has been slowly relocating, perhaps feeling a little overwhelmed by the increased activity around the house. Now, it seems they’ve found a new home next door, possibly seeking a quieter space, away from the energetic presence of our pets. While I’ll miss seeing them, it’s reassuring to know they’re not far away and still part of the neighborhood’s ecosystem.

First Honey

Yesterday morning, we harvested our very first batch of delicious honey from our bees! It was an incredibly rewarding experience to see the fruits of our bees’ labor, and the taste of fresh honey straight from the hive is something truly special. We’re thrilled to share this sweet milestone with you and look forward to many more harvests in the future. Stay tuned for more updates from our beekeeping adventures!
